Advice to Householders
The main method of advice provision is via the 0800 freephone number and through Home Energy Check (HEC) questionnaires.
Householders are encouraged to complete these questionnaires which are then processed to produce a detailed energy efficiency report.
This report gives advice specific to the householder on how to save energy in their home.
Verbal advice is also given to enquirers on the freephone number and this is often backed-up with information sent to the householder specific to their enquiry.
In addition to the above we also provide face-to-face advice to householders at presentations and public events.
Presentations and Training
Many talks are given to local groups, in particular local forums, health professionals and community groups. Our own locally-produced video - "Energy Matters" - is used as part of the presentation to explain the need and benefits of energy efficiency measures.
Although we are able to reach a large number of the population in Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway, it is just as important to work in partnership with council departments and outside organisations to reach even more people.
Training to promote energy efficiency has been given to housing staff, environmental health staff, health professionals and many others who work in the community. Training includes recognising and identifying fuel poverty, energy efficiency advice and client referral networks. These sessions not only benefit the organisations who participate but also the clients that they work with.
Energy Efficiency Measures Installed
As part of the advice provision service householders are signposted to grants, loans and discounts for energy efficiency measures. Some of these schemes are national schemes such as Warm Deal. All local schemes have been successful. The staff of the centre are involved at every stage in each project from conception through development, roll-out and management. We operate our schemes through a non-profit-making subsidiary company called Warm Homes Energy Agency, which was set up specifically to run grant and loan schemes to enable households and businesses to reduce their energy use and save money on their fuel bills. For further information contact the Energy Agency:
