The Energy Agency, in partnership with NHS (Ayrshire and Arran), South Ayrshire Council and East Ayrshire Council is currently conducting an evaluation project to investigate the potential benefits of Solid Wall Insulation (SWI). There are known links between cold homes, poor health and fuel poverty but at present few studies have investigated the success of the Scottish Government funded insulation schemes in alleviating these issues. We have therefore been engaging with households involved in the Area Based Schemes (ABS) initiative in order to assess any changes in energy efficiency performance and household fuel expenditure. In addition, an investigation of the health and well-being of the occupants is also being conducted in order to provide more detailed evidence regarding the links between energy-efficiency improvements and health and well-being. The study is still ongoing however reports on our results to date can be found below.
