Energy Saving Tips

• Don't leave appliances on standby.
• Draw the curtains in the evening and keep the hot air in and cold air out.
• Turn off lights when leaving a room.
• Use your washing machine sensibly. Wait until you have a full load and select a cool wash cycle of 40°C.
• Don't leave the fridge or freezer door open for long periods and remember to sit them in a cool place.
• For quick cooking or defrosting use the microwave oven as it uses much less electricity than a conventional oven.
• When cooking choose the right size of pan for the food and put lids on pans so the food cooks quicker. Choose the correct size ring to fit the pan or turn down the heat.
• When boiling the kettle, only boil as much water as needed but remember to cover the element.
• Turn the boiler thermostat down by 1°C and save £15 - £30 a year. You may hardly notice the difference.
• Instead of turning up the heating pull on a jumper.
